Mapping

Using a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) or Drone as the camera platform, a series of images can be taken in a relatively short period of time (the examples on this page were captured in 30 minutes or less). After automated processing (taking approximately an hour or two), the final aggregate image can be viewed and analyzed. The total cost is a fraction of what it would cost using a manned aircraft. Further, it is easy to get Ground Sampling Distances (GSD) on the order of 2cm per pixel (each pixel in the aggregate image represents a square 2cm by 2cm on the ground). Obtaining similar GSDs with manned aircraft requires a very sophisticated survey-grade camera installation costing tens of thousands of dollars over and above the cost of the aircraft.

Aero-Photos.ca can save you both time and money (as time is money, we can save you money-squared!) when you need accurate imagery for photogrammetric analyses.

OrthoMosaic Map

An orthomosaic map is made from a series of images (or mosaic) so that each point in the image map looks like it was taken from immediately overhead (ortho-rectified). Further, each point is geo-located so that accurate measurements (distances and areas) can be taken from the map. This is useful for measuring the area of land under cultivation, percentage of land cleared, etc.

Digital Surface Model

A Digital Surface Model (DSM) image shows the relative heights of the ground across the image. It is useful when calculating the volume of material either excavated from a hole or contained in a mound above ground. This can speed calculations of work done/remaining or inventory of sand or gravel.

3D Model

With a 3D model, the scene can be zoomed and rotated to examine the area of interest from any vantage point. Precise distance and angle measurements can be taken to support many different types of analyses.
